Anduze in South of France - gateway between Provence and the Cévennes
Anduze is a beautiful historic small town with a lot of flair. Historically dominating places, often surrounded with lovely fountains and narrow streets beckon to be a discovered. You will find beautiful old houses with beautiful doors with coloured, or weathered wooden shutters, as well as run-down and spotless corners.

You will also find many small shops, which just about sell everything. From the bakery, the butcher, clothes, pottery, gifts, toys, newspapers, wine, to local produce you will find everything here. Restaurants, bistros and small cafes invite you to stay on a little longer.
One of the oldest squares is the Place Couverte, also called Marché aux Grains or L'Orgerie. The place is known since 1457 and was used as a chestnut market back then. These days, however, the weekly market is held there on the partly covered square.
The Rue Droite is a pedestrian zone. Turning right at the Chateau Neuf, past the Plan de Brie, you experience a small passage in the Rue Droite. Usually, you will find a busker there. You also find small shops selling crafts; cafes, an ice cream parlour and nice alleys. At the end of Rue Droite, you get to the Place Couverte.
The "Le Chateau Neuf" dates back to the 17th century. It has two attached towers. This means it is integrated into one line of the row of houses giving it almost the feel of a city wall. Unfortunately, the Chateau is not open to visitors because it is on a private property. One tower inhabits a newsagent at the bottom. From the Café du Centre across the street you get a lovely view.

The La Tour Pézène is part of an old mansion dating back to the 13th or 14th century, which once was the residence of the former Count Roger of Beaufort, respectively Earl of Ales in the 17th century. Especially nice is the door portal.
The Parc de Cordeliers is a beautiful park with exotic trees. Of course, the bamboos, magnolias and cedars are not missing. In the middle of the park is a small lake.
The statue of Clara d'Anduze is located at the end of the central avenue at the north entrance of the Parc's de Cordeliers. Clara d'Anduze was a famous minstrel back in the 12th century.
The former barracks, dating back to the 17th century, serves these days as the Office du Tourisme on the left side and the Town Hall on the right side. The Protestant temple between those two buildings was built in 1823.
The "Quai" bears his name wrongly. Here is no quay, where you can tie up ships. This is rather a long protective wall, which was built to protect Anduze from the flash floods of the river Gardon. Big parts, of Aduze, are built lower than the Gardon. After big rains, the water level of the Gardon can swell rapidly, particularly when the water masses of the Cevennes join and might spill over to Anduze. The protective wall was built around 1770.
